Apart from the evident need to improve the actual quality of music, there still
seemed to be something missing. The guys could play uki music well, but it still sounded
plain, and lacked a traditional sound. It was for this reason that Mish suggested that another
friend, Zenko Poluzyn, join the band as an accordionist.
Zenko started playing music with the other three in the following summer of 2003, again at tabir. The four brought
their instruments and practiced stuff casually in their free time. As they continued to improve together, their
potential was appreciated by those who passed the Velikiy Barak, where they jammed almost daily. Eventually, the
band was asked to play a zabava on one of the weekends.
This zabava signified the birth of the band, and a name had to be thought up. The guys
had a lot of fun trying to come up with a name and some humorous suggestions were made.
Zenko suggested Zoloti Kozaky, Stef suggested Donald and the Druskies, but it was clear
that a more serious compromise had to be reached. In the end, Mish managed to come up
with the name Chorna Roza on a night down hospoda. Although there wasn't any profound
reason for the name, all the members of the band agreed it had a cool ring to it and were
happy for the name to be Chorna Roza.
After playing their first zabava in Tarasivka in August 2003, Chorna Roza, though still only very new and lacking
in experience and suitable equipment, were now a band. In the weeks and months to come, they started to improve
their skills playing music together and they purchased cool new equipment to satisfy the tastes of each band member.
They also began to play at a few zabavas around the country, a practise which they soon became used to. They
continue to play regularly at zabavas, parties, and other events to the present day.
